'Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead'
Stanford University TAPS will present "Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead," a production directed by Amy Freed of Tom Stoppard's absurd play about two minor characters from Shakespeare's "Hamlet." 'Silicon Valley: The Lure & the Legends'
The Los Altos History Museum will have on display an exhibit called "Silicon Valley: The Lure & the Legends" which examines the reasons why this area turned from orchards to a technology hub. The exhibit will focus on local factors and figures who contributed to the transformation. Thursday-Sunday, Oct. 18-April 19, noon-4 p.m. Free. Los Altos History Museum, 51 S. 'Watercolors' by Maria Klawe
The Community School for Music and the Arts will host an exhibit of watercolor paintings by Maria Klawe -- a mathematician, computer scientist and president of Harvey Mudd College. 'Abduction from the Seraglio'
West Bay Opera will put on a production of "Abduction from the Seraglio," Mozart's comedy about a Spanish nobleman's journey to Turkey to rescue his lover from a harem. The opera will be fully staged, with period costumes and sets, a chorus and orchestra. Jan. 13, 15 and 21, 8 p.m.; Feb. 22, 2 p.m. $40-$75. Lucie Stern Theater, 1305 Middlefield Road, Palo Alto.

African American history celebration with MSORD
This event organized by the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District will celebrate the history of African Americans in conservation, with programming including a guided nature walk, children's nature and craft activities, bird discovery with the Santa Clara Valley Audubon Society, food and beverages, and appearances by public officials and the California Buffalo Soldiers Association. Heavy rain will cancel the event. Feb. 21, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Free. Ravenswood Open Space Preserve, east end of Bay Road, next to Cooley Landing, Palo Alto.

Tree planting at Cuesta Park
Mountain View Trees and the City of Mountain View will co-host this tree planting event at Cuesta Park. No experience is necessary, and instructions, trees, tools and refreshments will be provided. Children accompanied by an adult are welcome. Attendees should wear gardening clothes. Feb. 21, 10 a.m.-noon. Free Cuesta Park, 700 Cuesta Drive, Mountain View.
