'Glorious Fourth'
To celebrate the holiday, the Los Altos Community Foundation will hold a family event called "Glorious Fourth," which will include food, live music by the Ye Olde Towne Band, face painting, a bounce house, a reptile display, games and more. 33rd Annual Summer Festival & Chili Cook Off
The City of Palo Alto will hold its 33rd annual Summer Festival & Chili Cook Off in celebration of Independence Day. Chefs will make a variety of chili dishes for the competition, and music, more food and kids activities will be on hand. July 4, noon-5 p.m. Free. Mitchell Park, 600 E. Meadow Drive, Palo Alto.

An Old Fashioned Fourth of July
At this event, children will be invited to hand-crank homemade vanilla ice cream and then take a taste. They can also make traditional Independence Day crafts. Activities will coincide with the famous Redwood City Independence Day parade. July 4, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. $2.50 adults; $1.50 student/senior.
